Week 17, Day 4 — Judges 1-3
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
Judges 2.10 — “That whole generation was also gathered to their ancestors. After them another generation rose up who did not know the Lord or the works He had done for Israel.” (CSB)
To me, this is one of the more sad moments we can read in Scripture. After Joshua has died and is buried, it is said that the rest of that generation died as well. These were the men and women who had experienced God’s handiwork first hand. They had seen the walls of Jericho come tumbling down (Joshua 6), they had witnessed a day when the sun stood still so that Israel could defeat the coalition of 5 kings (Joshua 10), and they had conquered the land of Canaan just as God said they would. Their children however, did not know (or appreciate) the great things God had done for Israel. If we aren’t careful, the next generation to come after us might not know all of the wonderful ways that God takes care of His people. Just as the Israelites were commanded to teach the next generation, we too have a responsibility to pass on God’s blessings, God’s goodness, God’s grace, and God’s mercy on to the next generation.
Psalm 105.1-2 — “Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; proclaim His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell about all His wondrous works!” (CSB)
