Week 18, Day 3 — Judges 12-16
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
When I read through the early part of Judges 14, I couldn’t help thinking of how Manoah and his wife reacted when Samson told them he wanted to marry a Philistine woman. I tried to put myself in their shoes, watching their son do things that were contrary to the Old Covenant and live in ways that were contrary to how God wanted him to live. I don’t know if his parents were still alive when he died, but I think of the agony they must have felt watching their son. As parents, we have an obligation to raise up our children in a way that would make them draw closer to God. We are to teach them about Him, what He has done for us, and how He loves us. We need to be that constant source of encouragement for them as they grow older and begin making their own decisions.
Proverbs 22.6 — “Start a youth out on his way; even when he grows old he will not depart from it.” (CSB)
