And now, a minute with the Word…

At his first his first military success as Israel’s king, Saul humbly acknowledged, “the LORD has worked salvation in Israel” (1 Samuel 11.13). In this light, Saul understood his need for “the favor of the LORD” before confronting the Philistines, but instead of waiting for Samuel, he “forced [him]self, and offered the burnt offering (13.12), and was thus indicted by Samuel, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the LORD your God” (verse 13). Rarely (if ever) does the impatience, rashness, or impetuousness of man accomplish the righteousness of God; and in Saul’s case, it cost him his kingdom. “But the fruit of the Spirit is…patience…” (Galatians 5.22).
