Week 20, Day 3 — 1 Samuel 14
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
In 1 Samuel 13, Saul’s military was incredibly outnumbered by the Philistine forces, “thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen and troops like the sand on the seashore in multitude” (verse 5), compared to “the people who were present with [Saul], about six hundred men” (verse 15). Despite these overwhelming odds against Israel, Jonathan (Saul’s son) expressed remarkable faith, in 1 Samuel 14.6 — “It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few.” Jonathan understood something we would all do well to remember: “the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Corinthians 1.25).
