Week 20, Day 4 — 1 Samuel 15-16, 1 Chronicles 1
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
According to Saul, he spared King Agag and the best of the Amalekite plunder at the persuasion of “the people” (1 Samuel 15.9, 15, 20-21, 24), but their influence did not negate his responsibility. Indeed, Samuel rebuked Saul, saying, “Though you are little in your own eyes, are you not the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel” (verse 17). As written by leadership guru John C. Maxwell, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” It was Saul’s job to ensure that the Lord’s will was done, and he failed. Consider your leadership — at work or school, among peers and subordinates, at home, for your spouse and children, for your siblings, in the community, in the local church, as “salt” and “light” (Matthew 5.13-16) — do you “obey the voice of the LORD” and help others do the same?
