And now, a minute with the Word…

When David’s life was threatened by King Saul and he felt his lowest — saying, for example, “But truly…there is but a step between me and death” (1 Samuel 20.3) —  two sources of solace arose. Jonathan said to him, “And as for the matter of which you and I have spoken, behold, the LORD is between you and me forever” (verse 23; cf. verse 42). In other words, David could take refuge in the LORD Himself and in those with whom he shared a covenant relationship. Those places of refuge — the LORD who is “faithful” (e.g. 2 Thessalonians 3.3) and those with whom “we walk in the Light” (1 John 1.7) — afford the same solace today!
