Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
First Samuel 26 highlights another contrast between Saul, whose heart had long before turned from the Lord, and David, a man after God’s own heart (13.14; 16.7, 12-13; Acts 13.22). On the one hand, there is Saul, who despite his earlier seeming repentance from seeking David’s life (1 Samuel 24.17-22), is found in chapter 26 again pursuing David’s life and requiring another demonstration of David’s righteous mercy to assuage his blood-thirst (verses 21-25). On the other hand, there is David, who could justly sing, from Psalm 57.7, “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast!” Whose heart do you resemble — one of insubstative repentance, or the other of enduring resolve?
