Week 24, Day 3 — 2 Samuel 18-20
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Absalom had been a lying, murderous, cowardly, arrogant, conspiratorial, deceitful, and perverse usurper; but upon his death, his father cried out, “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!” (2 Samuel 18.33; cf 19.4). Jerusalem had been a lying, murderous, cowardly, arrogant, conspiratorial, deceitful, and perverse usurper; but in view of her downfall, Jesus cried out, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” (Matthew 23.37; Luke 13.34). We have been…and so much more; but “The Lord…is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3.9).
