Week 26, Day 2 — 1 Kings 5, 2 Chronicles 2
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
In the midst of many remarkable details regarding temple construction, it’s easy to miss something subtle from Tyre’s King Hiram in 2 Chronicles 2: “Because the LORD loves his people” (verse 11) and “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who made heaven and earth” (verse 12). Tyre and King Hiram were Phoenician, not Israelite; and that means “the LORD God of Israel” was not the One whom they would ordinarily worship (cf. Matthew 11.21-22). But the influence of King David (a man after God’s own heart), “for Hiram always loved David” (1 Kings 5.1), and now his son Solomon, moved Hiram to at least acknowledge the LORD — something he might otherwise have never done. Let this remind us also to season and shine (Matthew 5.13-16).
