Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Describing the temple’s grandeur, 1 Kings 6-7 and 2 Chronicles 2-5 use the word gold 37 times, silver 4 times, and bronze 16 times. And regarding bronze, “the pots, the shovels, and the basins, all these vessels in the house of the LORD…were of burnished bronze . . . And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because there were so many of them; the weight of the bronze was not ascertained” (1 Kings 7.45, 47); and again, “Solomon made all these things in great quantities, for the weight of the bronze was not sought” (2 Chronicles 4.18). While admittedly not gold or silver, bronze was also a precious metal and required great skill to craft, yet its use for the temple was so abundant that it defied inventory!
