Week 27, Day 5 — 1 Kings 13-14, 2 Chronicles 12
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
“And [the LORD] will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and made Israel to sin” (1 Kings 14.16); “And Jeroboam drove Israel from following the LORD and made them commit great sin” (2 Kings 17.21). Under Jeroboam’s leadership, the northern kingdom of Israel accelerated its idolatrous decline, and in the course he set, every subsequent king of Israel walked. In fact, the way, sin, or sins of Jeroboam are specifically referenced a combined 22 times in the balance of 1 Kings and 2 Kings. To borrow words from 1 Timothy 4.16, “Keep a close watch on yourself and on [your course]. Persist in [sin], [and] by so doing you will [condemn] both yourself and your hearers.”
