On the whole, Jehoshaphat was a good king over Judah, “doing what was right in the sight of the LORD” (2 Chronicles 20.32; 1 Kings 22.43), typified by his prayer when Judah was threatened by the Ammonites, Moabites, and Edomites: “O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you . . . We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20.6, 12). Do our faith and humility sound anything like his?
