Week 30, Day 3 — Joel
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
The book of Joel is one of those books in the Bible that is hard to date. Many scholars believe that the prophet Joel delivered his message to the southern Kingdom of Judah sometime around the year 830 BC. This would place him on the timeline somewhere during the reigns of either King Ahaziah or Queen Athaliah — a notoriously wicked time during the period of Judah. He repeatedly tried to motivate the people of Judah to repentance by speaking about the coming ‘Day of the Lord’. There would be a reckoning for the kingdom of Judah if they ignored the admonitions to repent and continued in their sin. When we read Joel, let us be thankful we serve a God who is willing and ready to forgive us of our sins when we come to Him in true repentance.
Joel 2.12-13 — “Even now - this is the Lord’s declaration - turn to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Tear your hearts, not just your clothes, and return to the Lord your God. For He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in faithful love, and He relents from sending disaster.” (CSB)
