Week 33, Day 1 — Isaiah 1-3
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
Isaiah 1.14-15 — “I hate your New Moons and prescribed festivals. They have become a burden to me; I am tired of putting up with them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will refuse to look at you; even if you offer countless prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered in blood.” (CSB)
God’s people were not living according to the covenant they had made at Mt. Sinai. They were oppressing those who were disadvantaged, or ignoring those who needed their help the most. Their hands were covered in blood — they were guilty of sin. As a result, their worship to God was hindered and He told them their prayers would not be listened to. When I think about my life and my worship to God, am I in the same boat as they were? Am I living a life that is not measuring up to God’s standard? Let me not be guilty of being a person who honors God with my lips, but my heart is far from Him (Mark 7.6).
