Week 34, Day 3 — Isaiah 11-13
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Isaiah 13 begins a new and lengthy section of the book, through chapter 23, detailing God's judgments upon various nations, beyond Israel and Judah. This section is significant because, first, it reminds us that God was still dealing with all mankind, not just the descendants of Abraham, holding them accountable for their conduct, even though we know comparatively few details of those interactions. Second, this section of Isaiah highlights the utter futility of trusting anyone or anything besides God — no wealth, military prowess, or political alliance could thwart the purposes of God. Third, despite the specific nations identified (e.g. Medes, 13.17) who would execute these judgments, God is the One who is acting — He is absolutely sovereign over all.
