Week 36, Day 5 — Isaiah 36-37
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
When diplomacy, money, and armaments had failed, Hezekiah learned to trust (a key word in Isaiah 36-37) — to truth the Lord, and only the Lord. “Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD” (37.14); and the Lord answered “concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria” (37.21), “Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes to the heights? Against the Holy One of Israel!” (37.23; cf. 37.10-13). Sennacherib’s blasphemy would not stand, and God’s deliverance of Judah from the Assyrians would powerfully declare the One in whom they should forevermore trust. Assyria never learned, and Judah soon forgot. May God help us do better.
