Week 38, Day 3 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Chapter 53 is likely the best known chapter of Isaiah, understandably and properly so, but its message about the coming Messiah actually begins at the end of the preceding chapter. “Behold, my servant shall act wisely; he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted. As many were astonished at you— his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind— so shall he sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths because of him, for that which has not been told them they see, and that which they have not heard they understand” (52.13-15). Despite its temporary earthly setbacks (cf. Genesis 3.15), the Messiah’s mission would be successful, ending in His victorious exaltation, to the astonishment and wonder of every observer. Indeed, “the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand” (53.10).
