Week 38, Day 4 — Isaiah 54-55
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
“And God said, ‘Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.’ And it was so” (Genesis 1.11). The Lord said through Isaiah, “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth” (55.11). In other words, the same spoken word of God which had the power to create — “And God said” appears ten times in Genesis 1 alone — also had the power to re-create, i.e. to restore God’s people (Isaiah 55.10-13). And that same word retains its same power today. In His parable of the sower, Jesus said, “The seed is the word of God” (Luke 8.11); and the apostle Peter wrote of Christians, “you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God” (1 Peter 1.23).
