Week 39, Day 5 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Notice the contrast between father and son — Hezekiah “did what was right in the eyes of the LORD” (2 Kings 18.3), and Manasseh “did what was evil in the sight of the LORD” (21.2; an astounding understatement). While the Scriptures offer no explicit explanation for the spiritual chasm between them, perhaps the chronology is enlightening. Notice that Manasseh was only 12 years old when he became king (21.1), meaning he was born during the 15 years added to his father Hezekiah’s life (20.6). “But Hezekiah did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for his heart was proud” (2 Chronicles 32.24), meaning that Manasseh was not reared seeing his father’s spiritual strength, rather his weakness. Fathers (and mothers), what are your sons and daughters seeing in you?
