In chapter 12, Jeremiah asked God, “Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?” (Verse 1) God replied, “Behold, I will pluck them up from their land, and I will pluck up the house of Judah from among them.” (Verse 14) “And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of My people,” (Verse 16) God would give Judah’s evil neighbors a chance to be obedient to Him. “But if any nation will not listen, then I will utterly pluck it up and destroy it, declares the Lord.” (Verse 17) Similarly, Peter stated “the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.” “But is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:7, 9)
