Week 42, Day 1 — Jeremiah 14-16

Series: 2024 Bible Reading

And now, a minute with the word…

Am I moved to the point of weeping over the spiritual condition of those who live around me? The sin of the people of Judah was so grave that Jeremiah was driven to tears day and night for them. It broke his heart to see a people who had rejected God and were so calloused to their sin that they would not repent. Bringing this closer to home: am I driven to the point of tears for sins that I commit? Does it hurt me to see Christians not loving each other? When I hear of some ungodly behavior amongst Christians, do I take it seriously, or do I act like it’s not a big deal?

The apostle Paul had some words for Christians in the 1st century who were tolerating sin among God’s church. Let’s be a people who is affected by our sin/the sin of those around us, and let’s work to rid ourselves of it.

1 Corinthians 5.1-2 — “It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated among the Gentiles — a man is sleeping with his father’s wife. And you are arrogant! Shouldn’t you be filled with grief and remove from your congregation the one who did this?” (CSB)
