Week 42, Day 4 — Jeremiah 22, 23, 26
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
Jeremiah 23.5 — “Look, the days are coming” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “when I will raise up a Righteous Branch for David. He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land.” (CSB)
While on the whole Jeremiah is, by most people’s descriptions, a sad and depressing read, there are messages in Jeremiah that offer hope to a hopeless people. This passage from Jeremiah 23 is one of those passages. God speaks of a time in the future when the Righteous Branch of David will raise up. He will reign wisely and administer justice and righteousness in the land. Jesus would be a completely different, and far superior king, than the kings of the days of Jeremiah. While Eliakim, Coniah, and Zedekiah were wicked men who perverted justice and reigned foolishly, Jesus will be the exact opposite, and far better! Let us be thankful and rejoice that we serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19.16).
Hebrews 1.7-9 — “And about the angels he says: He makes His angels winds, and His servants a fiery flame, but to the Son: Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of justice. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; this is why God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy beyond your companions.” (CSB)
