Week 45, Day 1 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Like Daniel and his friends (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) several years before, Ezekiel had been taken captive from his homeland of Judah and resettled by the Babylonians in their land — in Ezekiel’s case, along the river (or canal) Chebar (1.1-3). There Ezekiel was shown “the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD” (1.28) and sent “to the sons of Israel, to a rebellious people who [had] rebelled against [the Lord]” (2.3) as “a watchman to the house of Israel” (3.17) — to call his people to repentance (verse 18-21) and to announce the coming fullness of their captivity (verses 22-27). The message preached by Ezekiel in Babylon was echoed by his contemporary, Jeremiah, in Jerusalem.
