Fulfilled prophecies provide powerful evidence for Bible inspiration, and Ezekiel’s message concerning the desolation of Tyre (chapters 26-27) is a significant example. Historically, “many nations” (26.3) came against Tyre, beginning with “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon” (verses 7ff) within just a few years of Ezekiel’s prophecy. By the end of Nebuchadnezzar’s 13-year siege of the city, most residents had fled the mainland and left it to be destroyed in 573 BC. In 333 BC, Alexander the Great demolished old mainland Tyre, the debris “cast into the midst of the waters” (verse 12) to build a causeway, so he could besiege what was at the time an island city. Even today, all that remains of ancient Tyre is a small fishing village, “a bare rock” (verse 4, 14), “a place for the spreading of nets” (verse 5, 14).
