And now, a minute with the Word…

The phrase “know that I am the LORD” appears 72 times in Ezekiel (preceded by “they shall, you shall, they will, you will, they may, they might”), and 18 of those are found in Ezekiel’s oracles against foreign nations (chapters 25-32). In other words, the Lord’s judgments against those nations were not simply punitive (though they were also that), but evidentiary — i.e. giving the judged reason to accept the deity of YHWH alone and to reject their idols.
