Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Ezekiel’s duty as a “watchman” (33.1-9) speaks to the free moral agency of mankind (33.10-20), i.e. the power of each individual to choose his or her spiritual outcome — as stated earlier in the book, “The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself” (18.20). Before death and judgment (Hebrews 9.27), neither righteousness nor wickedness are inalienable states; so to the wicked the Lord pleads, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation” (Acts 2.40), and to the righteous He cautions, “Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10.12).
