Week 52, Day 2 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
A month after completing the rebuilding of the walls, on the first day of the seventh month, all the Israelites gathered in the square before the Water Gate and asked Ezra the scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses and read it aloud. Ezra read it aloud to the people from early morning to midday and they all listened attentively. Ezra stood on a wooden platform, elevated so the people could see him as he read. Thirteen Levites stood with Ezra as he read from the law, their purpose was to translate and help the people understand all that was read. Ezra opened the book in view of all the people, “and as he opened it all the people stood. And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.” (Nehemiah 8:5-6) What a display of reverence to God!
