Week 52, Day 4 — Nehemiah 12-13
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
In chapter 13, Nehemiah discovered that the portions due the Levites was not being provided by the people. This was a point specifically mentioned in the renewed covenant; however, they were not fulfilling that promise. The Levites could not perform their work at the temple because they had to return to their fields to provide their necessities. Therefore, Nehemiah said “So I confronted the officials and said, “Why is the house of God forsaken?” And I gathered them together and set them in their stations. Then all Judah brought the tithe of the grain, wine, and oil into the storehouses.” (verses 11-12) Nehemiah then prayed, “Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God and for His service.” (verse 14) We are told in James 5:16 “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
