Week 1, Day 1 — Proverbs 1-2
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
The first six verses of chapter 1 explain the purpose for the book. “To know wisdom and instruction” (verse 2a), which is being disciplined and having the ability to see things as they really are. “To understand words of insight” (verse 2b), which is to understand the principles required to examine information and determine if it’s true or false, right or wrong. “To receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth” (verses 3-4). The Proverbs can enable the young and inexperienced to learn from the mistakes and wisdom of others. “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles” (verses 5-6). The Proverbs can enable the wise to prudently plan and direct their own affairs as well as the affairs of others.
