Week 2, Day 1 — Proverbs 12-13
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
The differences between wise and foolish speech — in words and in how those words are used — is an oft repeated contrast, beginning in Proverbs 10 and continuing throughout the book. Notice a few from chapters 12-13. The tongue of fools is malicious, sinful, deceitful, rash, injurious, lying, reckless, and disastrous; the tongue of the wise is benevolent, righteous, honest, measured, healthful, trustworthy, disciplined, and rewarded. Indeed, “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life” (Proverbs 13.3), because Jesus said, “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12.36-37).
