Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Chapter 31 are the words of Lemuel which his mother taught him. She warned him of the dangers and temptations a king would face (verses 2-9), as well as the importance and value of a worthy woman (verses 10-31). A virtuous woman is described as extremely precious and rare (verse 10). “Her husband trusts in her” and will benefit from her (verse 11). She is hard-working and labors diligently to meet responsibilities and provide for those who depend upon her (verses 13-22). She enhances her husband’s reputation (verse 23), produces income for the home (verse 24), “Strength and dignity are her clothing” (verse 25), and she speaks with kindness and wisdom (verse 26). Always busy, she maintains her household well (verse 27), so highly regarded by her children, they “rise up and call her blessed” (verse 28), and her husband praises her saying, “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” (verse 29) Physical beauty and appearance are deceitful and vain, “but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” (verse 30)
