“Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day” (verse 97), but the psalmist’s devotion to God’s Word is far more than an emotional or intellectual one; rather he repeatedly vows to walk, keep, not wander, not sin, to declare, not forget, to cling, run, observe, delight, trust, speak, sing, and turn. To wit, verse 100 inseparably connects knowing and doing — “I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts.” As James 1.22 admonishes, “be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Like the psalmist, commit to the Lord, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (verse 105).
